Does massage improve blood flow?

The zero gravity massage chair improves circulation. Two components of the massage chair help improve blood circulation. The first is the mechanized massage that is obtained from a zero gravity massage chair. These massage techniques include kneading, rolling, hitting, grasping, and Shiatsu. In all these techniques, the rollers of the massage chairs move and vibrate key points of the body, thus promoting better blood flow. The additional factor is the zero-gravity feature of premium massage chairs. In such a position, the blood reaches the various parts of the body and improves circulation throughout the body. There are innumerable benefits of increased blood circulation. These include:

  • Accelerate the recovery of injuries and ailments
  • Eliminate toxins from the body
  • Stimulation of endorphins that help the body manage with pain and stress

Does massage reduce stress, tension, and anxiety?

Studies have shown that massage therapy relieves stress symptoms. Massage therapists know this from experience, but this has also been validated by research studies such as “Short-term effects of massage therapy of myofascial trigger points in cardiac autonomic tone in healthy subjects.”

These studies conclude that massage therapy significantly reduces physical and psychological stress. Measurements of oxygen consumption, blood pressure, and salivary cortisol levels, for example, were lower after a chair massage of 10 to 15 minutes in controlled studies. In today’s society, where stress affects 40% of the population according to the latest data, a solution as simple as having access to a zero gravity massage chair seems obvious but necessary.

How does massage relax and loosen sore muscles?

The human body is a smart machine. When you overstretch your body beyond what is healthy, the muscles harden and become painful. These are signals for the body designed to keep you under control. Instead of persisting and proceeding stubbornly, listen to your body and take a break. Our massage modality will help you loosen sore and tired muscles, and release tension in your body. After a long and hard day’s work, we can guarantee that a good massage is a gift from heaven.

How does massage support heart health?

Our massage therapy significantly improves your heart; by allowing better circulation of the blood, it releases heart pressure. It also reduces stress on the lower back; by lowering the pressure in the lower back, it allows optimal blood circulation to the brain, which helps reduce pain.

Is it a myth that massage strengthens the immune system?

Massage chairs benefit the immune system. Lymphocytes are white blood cells that help defend the body against diseases. They are responsible for the body’s immune response. When the body can increase its number of lymphocytes, it is better able to resist the conditions that we find every day such as the common cold, fever or flu. According to the experts, a single massage is sufficient to produce and measure significant quantifiable changes in the body’s endocrine and immune response.

Is it true that massage relieves gastrointestinal reflux?

Our massage chair with a slight tilt of the torso up helps reduce, and even prevent, the acidity of the stomach back into the esophagus. It reduces swelling and is especially beneficial for those with diabetes, high blood pressure or overweight. Keeping the feet and legs slightly elevated, it reduces swelling and fluid retention in the lower part of the body while allowing the circulation of blood. The massage chair also helps improve breathing.

What is lymphatic circulation and how does massage support it?

The lymphatic system of the body is as important as the blood flow of the body. It is the drainage network that keeps our body fluids balanced and defends the body against infections. One way to think about the lymphatic system is to consider it as the body’s waste system since it collects the byproducts of the body’s waste. While blood has the heart to pump throughout the body, the lymphatic system does not have such a “pump” to force its movement. You can only move around the body when you breathe and contract the muscles. Therefore, when you lead a sedentary lifestyle, the lymphatic fluid tends to accumulate in the body causing inflammation.

Will massage help relieve pain and headaches?

Massage chairs have a proven track record of relieving all types of pain, including headaches, common body aches, chronic neck/shoulder/ back pain, etc. Studies show that massage therapy decreases cortisol levels and increases serotonin by an average of 28%. Serotonin is one of the body’s mechanisms against pain. By reducing cortisol and increasing serotonin, the body can better manage pain.

Are Chiropractic Treatments Effective?

Our patients often find chiropractic treatments to be effective for a number of issues, including neck pain, back pain, and headaches. In fact, chiropractic care helps many of our patients experience relief without the need for prescription medication or surgical procedures.

Chiropractic

Are Chiropractic Treatments Painful?

Chiropractic treatments typically aren't painful, though some patients experience minor discomfort after an appointment. We can offer suggestions to decrease discomfort, such as using ice packs or a heating pad at home. You may also find it helpful to perform gentle stretches after your appointment.

That being said, most patients leave with less pain than they had upon arrival. Progress takes time, but you may experience immediate relief after an adjustment or other services. Let us know if you are sensitive to chiropractic care so we can help make your visit more enjoyable.

Chiropractic

Can Chiropractors Prescribe Medication?

Chiropractors cannot prescribe medication, but many of our patients don't require medication to see results. They often visit us after discovering that conventional treatments mask their symptoms instead of addressing the root cause of them. We want to help your body heal, not just provide temporary relief from your pain or discomfort.

Chiropractic

Can You Receive Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy?

Chiropractic care is generally safe during pregnancy, but it's a good idea to double check with your OB/GYN before scheduling an appointment. Many patients find that chiropractic treatments help alleviate the aches commonly associated with pregnancy.

Chiropractic

How Do I Know if I Need Chiropractic Care?

We'll let you know! Chiropractors perform a thorough evaluation before recommending treatment. With your consent, we may also contact your other medical providers for information about your health. This helps us work together to provide complementary treatment, increasing your chances of recovery or pain management.

Chiropractic

How Many Visits Does It Take to Get Better?

Some patients only visit us a handful of times. Other patients require weeks or months of consistent care. The amount of time required for your recovery depends on a number of factors, including the severity of your condition and the level of improvement you want. Some patients want their pain to reach a manageable level, while others want to visit us until it disappears completely. Talk to us about your goals so we can develop a treatment plan tailored toward your wishes.

Chiropractic

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe. However, there is a small chance that you may develop complications after chiropractic care. These complications include increased pain, increased herniation, and stroke.

However, these risks are minimal when compared with those of other medical treatments, including prescription drugs and surgical procedures. Each year, millions of patients are hospitalized after experiencing adverse reactions to prescription medications. If you've ever undergone a surgical procedure, you may remember signing a waiver agreeing you understand the procedure has numerous risks, including permanent disability or death. These waivers aren't just an unnecessary precaution, as more than 250,000 people die from medical errors each year. In comparison, the risk of injury or complications during Chiropractic care is far less of a concern.

Chiropractic

What Are Some Common Treatments Chiropractors Use?

Many patients are familiar with the use of spinal manipulation in chiropractic care, which is when a doctor gently manipulates your spine with their hands or a tool. However, chiropractors also utilize numerous other techniques and treatments, including:

  • Spinal decompression
  • Cervical decompression
  • Cryotherapy
  • Red Light therapy
  • Massage
  • Physical therapy
  • Stretches and other simple exercises

The treatments your chiropractor chooses will depend on the severity of your condition and your personal preferences. We work with you to develop a treatment plan you're comfortable receiving. Your doctor may recommend a single treatment or combine multiple techniques to help you alleviate your symptoms.

This is not a full list of ailments we treat. Talk to us if you have a condition that isn't on the list, and we'll let you know how we can help.

Chiropractic

What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractors believe the body's musculoskeletal structure must be aligned correctly to prevent health issues. Chiropractic care draws upon this belief, which is why chiropractors often focus on the condition of your spine. Each patient receives care tailored toward their unique symptoms. When you visit a chiropractor, services may include manual manipulation, spinal decompression, laser therapy, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, or cryotherapy. Chiropractic treatments are non-surgical and non-invasive.

Chiropractic

What Is Sciatica?

Sciatica often strikes when patients are 30 to 50 years old, but we also treat teens and seniors with this debilitating condition. It refers to pain that travels throughout your sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in your body. Your sciatic nerve runs from your lower back to your feet.

When your sciatic nerve becomes irritated, injured, or compressed, it reacts by producing excruciating pain. Ice packs and heating pads occasionally help, but sciatic pain often requires treatment from a skilled chiropractor.

A chiropractor can perform diagnostic tests to pinpoint the root of your nerve pain and then proceed accordingly. This may mean performing a spinal adjustment to ease a herniated disc back into its designated spot or recommending spinal decompression therapy.

Chiropractic

What Is a Chiropractor?

A chiropractor specializes in neuromuscular disorders and how they impact our physical and mental health. They believe the human body can heal itself with help from chiropractic treatments, such as spinal manipulation and spinal decompression. Despite common misconceptions, chiropractors are not trained to reject Western medicine. Instead, they learn techniques that complement the treatment plans recommended by primary care physicians and other medical providers.

Chiropractic

What Kind of Training Do Chiropractors Receive?

Chiropractors undergo extensive training before treating patients for spine-related ailments. On average, chiropractors spend at least four years working on their Doctor of Chiropractic (DC). They cannot pursue this degree until they attend at least three years of undergraduate courses.

Chiropractic students complete a supervised clinical during their doctorate program prior to working as a solo practitioner. Depending on the state, a chiropractor may also need to pass licensing exams before practicing without supervision. Many chiropractors also pursue additional educational opportunities after college so that they have a thorough understanding of modern wellness techniques.

Chiropractic

What Symptoms Can Chiropractors Treat?

Chiropractors treat a wide range of symptoms that impact your physical and emotional well-being. Our team helps patients effectively manage the following symptoms:

  • Pain
  • Cramping
  • Tingling
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • Inflammation
  • Limited range of mobility
  • Exhaustion

Many patients also notice their mental health improves after a chiropractic session. Living with chronic pain can trigger bouts of depression and anxiety, and many patients confess they felt hopeless about the future until they visited our office. We help alleviate your discomfort so you can get back to living life on your terms.

Chiropractic

Why Is My Spine Out of Whack?

The demands of modern life trigger many spinal issues. Every patient develops symptoms for different reasons, but common culprits include:

  • Automobile accidents
  • Work-related injuries
  • Fall-related injuries
  • Pregnancy or other medical conditions
  • Frequent use of electronics or digital devices
  • Heavy lifting
  • Emotional stress
  • Obesity
  • Physical activities, including yard work, sports, and exercise routines

It's difficult to avoid every potentially damaging activity. Some of our patients visit us after pulling a muscle while vacuuming or mopping. You can also damage your spine by sleeping on the wrong type of mattress or pillow. When you visit Atmosphere Chiropractic and Wellness, we can evaluate your lifestyle and offer advice on how to prevent future issues.

Are there restrictions on those who can use cryotherapy?

The following conditions are contraindicated for cryotherapy: Pregnancy, severe uncontrolled hypertension (BP> 180/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction (heart attack within 6 months), narrowing of valves, crescent-shaped aorta and mitral valve, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmias, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident (stroke: must be cleared for exercise), uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud's syndrome, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, claustrophobia, cold allergy, acute kidney and urinary tract diseases, incontinence, age less than 18 years (parental consent required).

Cryotherapy

Are there side effects?

Generally, cryotherapy is well-tolerated with minimal side effects, but you may experience changes in your blood pressure during the procedure, an allergic reaction to extreme cold (which is very rare), anxiety, claustrophobia, or triggering some viral conditions due to immune system stimulation.

Cryotherapy

Does cryotherapy help you burn calories?

Studies have shown that cryotherapy helps burn 500-800 extra calories over the course of the day after one session.

Cryotherapy

How cold is it in the cryosauna?

-121 degrees Fahrenheit

Cryotherapy

How long are the sessions?

Ours are 1 - to 3-minutes long.

Cryotherapy

Is cryotherapy new?

No, cryotherapy was invented in Japan in 1978 by a physician looking to treat rheumatoid arthritis. It’s been researched and refined ever since.

Cryotherapy

Is there an age requirement for cryotherapy?

For those under age 18, parental consent is required. For those under age 18, please consult with our medical staff and your primary care physician prior to trying cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy

I’ve heard people use cryotherapy for anti-aging - is that true?

Yes! Several people, including A-list celebrities (whose job it is to look youthful) use cryotherapy as part of their anti-aging regimens since it helps with cellular regeneration, collagen production and circulation.

Once you leave the cryo chamber, your newly-enriched oxygenated blood courses through your body, which helps the body’s natural ability to produce collagen.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, found in muscles, bones, skin and tendons. It’s what makes our skin elastic (youthful!), strong and helps regenerate new skin cells. As we age, our collagen production slows down. Toxins like smoking and sun exposure also deplete collagen levels.

Cryotherapy

What do I wear?

For your cryotherapy session, you will be asked to disrobe to your undergarments and put on thermal socks, rubber booties and gloves with a robe. We’ll provide everything except the undergarments!

Ladies, you can opt to keep your sports bra on (no underwire or metal clasps).

You will also be asked to remove any jewelry or metal objects.

Cryotherapy

What is cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is short-term (1- to 3-minute) exposure to extreme cold. Once you enter the cryo chamber, your body will be surrounded by super-cooled air circulating inside at down to -121°F, giving off a dry chill and rapidly lowering the skin’s surface temperature.

This exposure to extreme cold stimulates skin sensors, activating a central nervous system response. That, in turn, releases endorphins -- the body’s natural mood elevators and pain inhibitors.

The cold temperature also signals your brain to go into survival mode. In this mode, your blood vessels in the skin and periphery shrink and blood circulation to your organs improves to help keep them warm.

All the while, this process is getting rid of toxins and enriching your blood with the oxygen and nutrients to help stimulate cellular regeneration, decrease inflammation and clear toxins.

Cryotherapy

What should I expect for a cryotherapy session?

First you change out of your clothes into a comfortable robe, thermal socks, rubber booties, gloves and you can keep your undergarments on (but no metal!).

Then you’ll step into the cryo chamber, close the door and the technician hits “start” and the super-cooled air will start to flow. You don’t need to remain still during the whole 3 minutes you’re in the cryo chamber. You can move around a bit to keep your blood flowing.

Once your session is over you can exit the cryo chamber and get dressed again.

Cryotherapy

Who uses cryotherapy?

Elite athletes and pro-teams use cryotherapy for faster muscle and injury recovery. Weekend warriors use it to manage pain and inflammation, for an increase in energy, and stress-related conditions. Those who use it say they can train harder as a result.

Cryotherapy is a fast and effective alternative to traditional ice baths.

Even if you’re not an athlete, you could benefit from cryotherapy, too! Cryotherapy is great for those who have:

  • Depression or looking to improve mental wellbeing
  • Joint & muscle soreness
  • Chronic pain
  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Low libido
Cryotherapy

Why shouldn’t I just ice an injury or take an ice bath?

Instead of icing just one area or steeping in an ice bath for an uncomfortable 20 minutes, individuals can just step into the cryo chamber and experience more far-reaching benefits of exposure to cold in just a few minutes. Plus, the cooled air in the cryo chamber offers a temporary, superficial chill versus the ice bath’s bone-chilling freezing cold.

Cryotherapy

How often can I do it?

You can use light therapy every day. Most people don’t see much benefit using it more than once per day. It is recommended to do at least 3-5 sessions per week. Consistency is key to reach results.

Red Light Therapy

Is this only for athletes?

Not at all. While there is much talk about strength, endurance, and recovery time, photobiomodulation improves cellular processes resulting in a number of benefits (see above) for any adult. Light therapy is for all of us who want to do more, feel better, and look younger.

Red Light Therapy

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy (aka Photobiomodulation or LLLT) is a treatment that stimulates the body’s cellular processes. NEO | Light uses red and full-spectrum near-infrared light to activate a variety of biological processes.

Red Light Therapy

What is it used for?

Red light therapy is used for and approved to to treat injuries, reduce pain, relax muscles/joints, and increase blood circulation. These are the main applications recognized in the United States by the FDA. Much new research has surfaced over the past decade which suggests many more applications including skin rejuvenation, hair loss prevention, and sleep optimization.

Red Light Therapy

What time of day should I do it?

Technically any time of day is fine, as you are wearing “black out” goggles. However, there is likely brief exposure to the bright lights. Some lights are calming while others are stimulating. With NEO | Light we recommend doing the Restore, Pulse, and Calm Mode any time of day.

Cleanse mode however, which contains blue light, should be done in the morning or afternoon only, and not in the late evening. This is because Blue Light is stimulating and thought to enhance mood, focus and attention – is not desired in the evening.

Red Light Therapy

Who should NOT use Red Light Therapy?

  • Pregnant women, customers with cardiac pacemakers, and patients with malignant tumors.
  • Customers who are allergic to light therapy or who take photosensitizers (such as chlorpromazine).
  • Customers with active hemorrhage or shock, and internal organ damage.
  • Customers with high fever, active tuberculosis, vasculitis obliterans, etc.
  • Patients with severe heart and kidney disease, such as heart failure, myocarditis, uremia, etc.
  • Patients with skin diseases should use it under the guidance of a doctor.
Red Light Therapy

Why a full (360 degree) light bed and not single panels?

Red light panels offer a much lower dose than a high-powered light bed, meaning you need far more exposure time plus you are standing throughout the process. Because the user is standing, distance to the body becomes the next problem. The power of a light wave drops exponentially with distance. This means if you are 3 inches away from the light source vs 10 inches or even 1-2 ft as we often see with light panels, the actual dose can be reduced to almost nothing. While light panels are aesthetically pleasing in social media posts, the actual benefits of many of the existing products are questionable.

With NEO | Light the user is only ca 2-3 inches from the LEDs in the base of the light bed, and only up to 5 inches from those in the canopy. You are fully engulfed in light from up to 36,360 high powered LEDs, an exposure that simply can not be matched with a simple light panel.
